Gold Rush For Academy In Bellurgan Park
The VC Glendale Academy enjoyed a bumper weekend of Gold medals and podium places at the National MTB champs in Bellurgan park Co Louth. The races were run over two days with Saturday being a practice day for everyone and some youth races being run in the evening, these included non Championship U8 and U10 events. On the podium for these events we had Fiadh Craig (2nd) U8 and Jake McKee (2nd) U10.

On Sunday the racing resumed with with many championship races all going off together at 11pm separated by only a few minutes, these included the following categories, both male and female U12, U14, U16 Juniors and Elite women. First to finish and on the top spot as she has done all season was Aoife Craig.

The next rider to take The top spot on the podium was U14 rider Cara Suckling with an impressive ride in the girls U14 category again following on from a very successful full MTB campaign, in the boys race it was a great 6th place for James Armstrong who has spent most of the year racing on the road and just dipping his toes into the MTB racing once or twice. And it was the same result for Harry Hobbs (6th) in the U16 boys event again spending most of the season on the road.

The junior mens race was an exciting one with Travis Harkness, 30 seconds down on Curtis Neill going into the last lap, and appearing out of the trees on the final few bends just ahead of him to cross the line hand held high to take the Gold Medal. Darcey was unlucky in the womens race coming home in a great 4th place but just of the podium.

The last academy rider to take to the start line was Lee Harvey in what was the main event of the day, with a star studded field of the best in Ireland. Unfortunately for Lee he suffered a mechanical at the furthest point possible from the pits and struggled back to them to finish a credible 9th place, just behind Lee in 11th was Chris Oakley from the club and in the other events Davy McKee was 7th in the M50 category and Stuart Suckling was 17th in the M40’s
