Awards Night Goes From Strength To Strength

The club recently celebrated the efforts of the whole club with their annual awards night in the Devenish Complex with awards being handed out to members from aged three upwards. The Awards night continues to grow with more and more adult members attending each year and it really is a great family night out with the kids leaving early and leaving the adults to party on until closing time. The Awards night got under way with a talk from Gillian Creevy CEO of Cancer Fund For Children congratulating the club on that days charity cycle and explaining what the Charity does on a day to day basis. After a short introduction by Colm Watson the awards night got under way with all the age categories in the club being brought up on to stage to be recognised for their achievements, a great honour for the kids, and again receiving their awards from our special guest Debbie Barclay.

The first main award of the night was for the very popular 'Imp Of The Year' The Mark Graham Cup this is voted by all the imps and parents, and was handed out by Brendan Graham, this years winner was a runaway success it went to Cathal McGovern with Javan Pang in second and Sophie Watson and Harry Hobbs sharing third place on the podium.

Next up was a close battle for 'Most Improved Rider of the Year' this was a selection of riders drawn up by the committee and it all came down to one vote with Sean McCourt just pipping Garrett Fitzgerald for first prize with Cathal McGovern an imp an impressive third.

The Next award was for 'Club Rider of the Year' this was chosen by the committee and they were unanimous in their choice when they selected Brendan Doherty For this award, for his impressive results and ride at the recent world championships.

Last Award of the night was for 'Club Member of the Year' again this was voted by all the members of the club and the club cup was collected by a well deserved Jim Watson who tirelessly takes club runs all year around and keeps the club together. A very close second was Toby Watson for his work week in week out taking superb photos for the club, for every member to enjoy. Third place went to last years winner Colm Watson, for his work with the imps and the club, making the podium a family affair.

We had a special award for the girls in the club who took part in the Ulster Cross League throughout the winter the club needs to make more of an effort when it comes to supporting the females in the club so we hope this is a step in the right direction. The entertainment on the night was provided by Karl and Paul Hutchison on guitars singing a host of old and new numbers and leading a sing song as the night came to a close. We want to thank everyone for showing up on the night buying ballots and supporting the club.
